this is gonna sound stupid but i want to have a private server so i can use the mods which arent available in single player, but i dont want to run a server becuase i have a limited amount of download usage... so is there any way to run a server just on the home network without using any download?

If you set up just a normal server you all will be able to connect to it via local IP.

I believe even if your internet disconnect you can still connect via local IP but I have not tried that so don't quote me on it.

Decided to download the .exe and you have to open Server.Properties in Notepad and change

  online-mode=false

Leave server port as default and Host joins under "localhost" Player would have to join as the IP Address To find that type

Windows+R (Run) -> CMD -> IPConfig (Should show Contents.

Hopefully this helped. in anyway possible?
And if it didn't you could try the Hamachi way

The online mode is if it connects to minecraft.net and see if the person has an account or not.

No lol it wasn't what the whole thread was about. Setting the online mode to offline just means it wont check to see if you have a premium account.

If somebody else has the IP address they can still connect. So the server is still online.

It also means that non-Local players cant connect.. and wont it use the Default Gateway IP?

No it doesn't mean non local players cannot connect. I keep saying all it means is it will not check to see if the person has a premium account.

I use it on my server with my mate who lives miles away. He doesn't have a minecraft account so you set that to offline and they can connect.
