    Ten Hag dismisses Rashford criticism

Erik ten Hag has dismissed criticism of Marcus Rashford from Alan Shearer, accusing the Premier League legend of ‘stupid analysis’ on his striker.

The United boss said: "Everyone gets criticism from you guys, it doesn’t matter what we are doing, if we are winning or if we are losing.

"If I take a player off, the conclusion is I was not happy with him. But I was very happy with Rashy in pre-season, against Fulham and also against Brighton.

"I didn’t take him off because his performances or level were not right – no, we had to rotate because we have good players on the bench who bring new energy.

"There will be rotation. Then there is the conclusion the player is not performing. It can be sometimes but definitely it wasn’t in this case. In this case, it was stupid analysis from the pundit."

    Varane suffers season ending injury

Former Man Utd defender Raphael Varane has been ruled out of the entire season for new club Como 1907 due to injury.

    Ten Hag discusses transition period

Erik ten Hag has claimed Man Utd are in a transition period and have much more work to do compared to Sunday's opponents Liverpool.

He told TNT Sports: "I'm not here to talk for him [Slot] but Liverpool, it's clear, they are in a different phase of the life cycle.

"They have a team that is mature, players who have been playing for a long time together and who are very experienced. We have much more of a mix and have to build a new team.

"There is a team and the structures are really clear, I think the players, the partnerships, the relationships in that team are very clear and that is what he inherited, that has been built over the past years.

"So things are still the same, but I have also seen some things that he already brought in.

“That was one of the reasons I wanted to come here, to have this challenge. I knew beforehand this is the most difficult [thing] that I could ever do in life, to come into a club which has a lot of problems which we had to sort."

    Pundit shocked at Sancho decision

Former Tottenham defender Michael Dawson thinks Jadon Sancho has made a big mistake swapping Man Utd for Chelsea on deadline day.

He told Sky Sports: “It’s a surprising move for me when I look at the players already at Chelsea in that wide area.

“Jadon Sancho is a good player, let’s not forget that. He was a superstar at Borussia Dortmund, he went to United and it didn’t work out for him.

“But to go to Chelsea, why will it be any different there? Where’s he going to play? I honestly thought he needed to go somewhere where he was going to play.

“I think he’s the kind of player that wants to be playing week in, week out. He’s going to be in and out like you won’t believe at Chelsea.

“Chelsea is an absolutely crazy place right now. You’re bringing in Sancho for [Raheem] Sterling. It blows my mind.”

Ex-Man Utd star praises late signing

Former Man Utd academy talent Ben Thornley believes the signing of youngster Sekou Kone could prove to be an astute acquisition.

He told MUTV: “It’s absolutely brilliant. This is the remit Dan Ashworth brings with him.

“He has a plethora of knowledge about how to bring them into the academy. This is another one of a number we have signed in this transfer window and I’m sure there are more to come.

“They [players] know Manchester United has got a huge rich history of bringing players through, and still be able to develop them. Trust me – they are in the best place.”

  • Ten Hag blocks late transfers

Erik ten Hag blocked a late attempt from Real Betis to sign both Antony and Christian Eriksen, according to the Daily Mail.

It is understood that Man Utd boss Ten Hag ‘was unwilling to permit any other members of his squad to leave in the final few hours’ despite Betis wanting ‘to tempt United’s late resolve and asked about the possibility of taking both Antony and the Danish midfielder on loan, but were quickly rebuffed.’

Ten Hag was disappointed by Scott McTominay's departure to Napoli as he was an important member of his squad.

    Shearer baffled by Man Utd

Alan Shearer was left dismayed after Man Utd opted against signing Ivan Toney, who joined Al-Ahli in a £40million transfer.

He said: "I like Ivan Toney - he's an excellent player, obviously, he knows the Premier League, he knows what it's about and he's proven at that level. He's an England international too.

"He only has one year left on his contract, and I understand why some players would want to go to Saudi Arabia, but for someone like him who's in the prime of his career, he's got another four or five years ahead of him. I think he has a lot to offer.

"I am slightly surprised - I think he'd do pretty well at Old Trafford. I thought they [United] were poor in forward areas against Brighton and without Hojlund.

"I know they've signed Zirkzee, but they're playing Fernandes and Mount as two 'false' nines, and I'm not sure that's worked for them. They got the goal from Zirkzee against Fulham and then just the one last week, so it hasn't quite clicked for them yet in forward positions."

    Sancho to Chelsea

Jadon Sancho has all-but completed a move to Chelsea on loan for the season, with an announcement expected later today.

The deal has included an obligation for Chelsea to buy Sancho next summer for £25million.

Sancho is from London originally and grew up a Chelsea fan, and he'll be desperate for his Premier League career to kick on from here.

He'll have plenty of competition for a place in the starting XI, however, with Joao Felix and Pedro Neto also signing this summer.

Teg Hag has 'mixed' feelings over Scott exit

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has revealed his "mixed" feelings over losing long-serving Scott McTominay to Napoli.

The midfielder was popular with Old Trafford fans because of his loyalty and roots in the academy.

And Ten Hag said of the Scot's departure: “It is a little bit mixed, I am very happy for him but it is mixed because I wouldn’t prefer to lose him.

“He is Manchester United in everything, he was so important for Manchester United.

“He was here for over 22 years but unfortunately it is the rules.

“Homegrown players bring more value and that is not the right thing to do but for everyone, for all parts, it is a good deal. Scott is happy with it, and Napoli and us.”

'New Chelsea approach for Osimhen fails'

Chelsea have reportedly failed with a late attempt to resurrect a big-money move for Victor Osimhen.

Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano claims the Blues presented a "new proposal" to Napoli just over two hours ago - but to no avail.

Al-Ahli have shown the strongest interest - financially at least - in the Italians' striker this summer.

But it's claimed the Nigerian superstar has reservations over switching to Saudi Arabia aged just 25.

Arsenal and Manchester United are previously thought to have monitored Osimhen's situation.

Romano posted: "NO agreement between Victor Osimhen and Chelsea even after new proposal presented two hours ago."

Billy joins McTominay at Italian giants

You would have got long odds on Napoli signing just one of Billy Gilmour or Scott McTominay just a couple of months ago.

Now the Italians have pouched both Prem midfielders in the same evening - on transfer deadline day.

Manchester United's McTominay went first - now Brighton pass-master Gilmour has switched for an initial £12million, with £4m in add-ons.

Seagulls' boss Fabian Hurzeler said: “I have thoroughly enjoyed the short time I worked with Billy. He’s a great professional and I wish him all the best for the future.”

Brighton's technical director David Weir said: “Billy quickly established himself as a popular figure in the dressing room and was a key player last season when we competed in the Europa League for the first time.

"We wish him the best of luck with this move to Italy and thank him for his efforts with the club.”
