Every Cameo In Rick And Morty Season 6 Episode 9 Explained (2024)

This article contains spoilers for Rick and Morty, season 6, episode 9, "A Rick in King Mortur's Mort."The penultimate episode of Rick and Morty season 6, titled "A Rick in King Mortur's Mort," is an Arthurian fantasy adventure story littered with several incredible guest stars. During the episode, Rick and Morty find themselves embroiled in an epic-fantasy plot akin to Game of Thrones. When Morty inadvertently becomes the leader of the Knights of the Sun, an interplanetary war is ignited. Much of the episode focuses on Morty, with Rick's character arc taking a brief backseat.

Much of Rick and Morty season 6, episode 9, "A Rick in King Mortur's Mort," relies on stereotypically British fantasy references and characters. The Knights of the Sun, "sworn defenders of Helios," consist of characters played by a quintessentially British voice cast from cult television shows and one popular fantasy franchise. The episode also features another character who is voiced by one of comedy's greatest entertainers, with a rather unrecognizable performance.

Jack Black

Possibly the biggest guest star to appear in Rick and Morty, Jack Black plays Lithdor, leader of the Viscounts of Venus. Lithdor is one of the primary aggressors in the Solar War. Dressed in long dark robes, with a gaunt face framed by lank black hair, Lithdor is a combination of several fantasy baddies including Loki and Professor Snape. Despite initially reveling in the war, Lithdor readily accepts its conclusion, unlike other Rick and Morty villains. Lithdor will later oversee the "stumping of the King's stem" ceremony. Black's voice is high-pitch, with a certain snarling tone recalling the Devil from Black's classic Tenacious D song "Tribute."

Daniel Radcliffe

Daniel Radcliffe, a long-time fan of Rick and Morty and the titular star of the Harry Potter franchise, is appropriately cast in the British-themed fantasy romp of "A Rick in King Mortur's Mort." The unnamed, rather rotund Knight of the Sun has long brown hair and a matching beard. His role among the knights is as the keeper of the lore, explaining their history, traditions, and customs throughout. Radcliffe delivers the episode's greatest joke, explaining how Rick and Morty "sacrificed" themselves in the lava pit. The character doesn't realize he is repeating moments from the pair's classic acid-vat scene, one of the funniest jokes from Rick and Morty canon.

David Mitchell

David Mitchell is one of three Peep Show stars who appear in Rick and Morty season 6, episode 9, "A Rick in King Mortur's Mort." Peep Show is one of Britain's most beloved sitcoms, making it an incredibly appropriate source for the guest-starring cast of Rick and Morty's Arthurian fantasy episode. The three actors all play up to their Peep Show counterparts, sharing several similar character traits. They encapsulate a certain Britishness, toying with the dynamic the three actors have already enjoyed on screen, particularly the comedy duo David Mitchell and Robert Webb. The casting of this trio also plays upon Rick and Morty's meta-awareness of the show's construct.

David Mitchell plays the blonde and mustachioed Knight of the Sun whom Morty first meets in the episode while queuing at the food stall. Like Mitchell's Peep Show character, Mark, the knight is fastidious and appears to be the clan's administrator. He is also one of the most prominent knights in the episode and is responsible for explaining that Morty must cut off his penis.

Robert Webb

Robert Webb, who plays Jez in Peep Show, voices the short knight with red hair and a beard. His appearance is very similar to Gimli from The Lord of the Rings, merging the classic fantasy visage with Webb's enigmatic Britishness. This knight is very similar to Webb's Jez, particularly when the knights are languishing in the drug den, strung out on Heroin. Webb's knight is the first of the clan to point out Rick's manipulative nature, and his delivery of the line "Dr. Feel-good" is pure Jez.

Matt King

Matt King is famous for his off-the-wall Peep Show character, Super Hans. Known for living a rather fantastical existence in the otherwise drab and mundane vision of Peep Show's Britain, Super Hans is one of the most enduring characters in British culture. King's Rick and Morty character subverts this, missing much of the interplanetary war by being in the bathroom. The heroin scene specifically references Super Hans's drug use and is the most blatant reference to Peep Show, highly suggestive of a Rick and Morty crossover episode.
