All sound good, and yes, it can mean 'angry or hysteric', but it can also be positive; I think it would be more correct to say 'have a strong, severe, emotional reaction'.
If I win the lottery, I am going to freak out! -> positive
I can't wait to tell her the news, she is going to freak out! -> positive
My husband is going to freak out when I tell him I'm pregnant! -> could be positive or negative ;)
