Big Names in Rap, Christian Music, and Comedy Headline Must-See Weekend Entertainment (2024)

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Two-time Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter Lauren Daigle, gospel legend CeCe Winans, rapper Lil Jon, and comedian Daniel Tosh are some of the top names headlining the Fresno area entertainment scene in the coming days.

Here’s a look at this week’s big events:

CeCe Winans

CeCe Winans is the undisputed queen of gospel. The numbers prove it. And she’s bringing her vocals and holy spirit to Visalia First Church this Thursday with The Goodness Tour.

She has garnered 15 Grammy Awards, the most for a female gospel singer; 31 GMA Dove Awards, 17 Stellar Awards, and 7 NAACP Image Awards.

To go along with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, she has 17 million in record sales certified by RIAA, and more than 19 million estimated in total sales as a solo artist. As busy as she is, CeCe’s also authored three books.

I attended a documentary showing and Q&A with Korn guitarist Brian “Head ” Welch and his daughter Jenna, at the church and it’s a great venue.

Lil Jon

What! What! I’m saying that rapper, DJ, and record producer, Lil Jon, will be getting crunk at Tachi Palace in Lemoore this Friday.

He’s fresh off his stellar collaborative performance during this year’s Super Bowl halftime show with Ludacris and Usher where they played their Grammy Award winning hit “Yeah.” He’s got plenty of jams in his discography like, “Salt Shaker,” “Cyclone,” “Get Low,” “Snap Yo Fingers,” “Damn!”, “Freek-a-Leek,” “Lovers and Friends,” and “Goodies.” All these songs were party anthems that made you want to get low at high school dances and college parties.

The Atlanta-based rapper started out with his original crew, The East Side Boyz. Now he’s solo or contributing his distinct voice as a guest artist with other musicians. He’s best known for shouting one liners like “yeah,” “what,” and “OK.” Comedian Dave Chappelle used to spoof Lil Jon and his liners on his sketch show, “Chappelle Show.” Before you knew it, everybody would shout those words and you knew who they were referring to.

I had the pleasure to see him live last year in Fresno at Chukchansi Park for the annual Tequila Fest. He was there with Rick Ross and T.I. His music made me “turn down for what” and it was a good time.

If you see him live, take your “shots,” and his performance will make you get “outta your mind.”

Lauren Daigle

The two-time Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter Lauren Daigle is bringing The Kaleidoscope Tour to Save Mart Center on Friday.

This young lady has won seven GMA Dove Awards, five Billboard Music Awards, two American Music Awards, and has had four No. 1 singles on the Billboard Christian Airplay and Hot Christian Songs charts.

The former “American Idol” contestant has more than 2 million followers on Instagram and Facebook. She has collaborated with CeCe Winans, along with other great artists like Jon Foreman, Reba McEntire, and Blessing Offor.

Daigle sings, plays her instruments, and writes songs from a spiritual perspective. You can feel it in songs like “Trust in You,” and “You Say,” which are among her biggest hits. Her fans love her because she sings from the heart.

Los Angeles Azules

The Los Angeles Azules are a Mexican musical group playing the cumbia sonidera genre. Specifically, it’s a cumbia subgenre using the accordion and synthesizers. The band was launched in the early ’80s by a half-dozen siblings of the Mejía Avante family. The name means Blue Angels.

They’ve been mainstays in the Latin music genre. Last year, the song, “Esto sí es cumbia “(“This Is Cumbia”), hit the Regional Mexican Albums Top 10. 2019’s “Nunca es suficiente” (“It’s Never Enough”) was written and sung by Natalia Lafourcade, which became the Azules’ first Regional Mexican chart-topper in 19 years. The song has over 2 billion views on YouTube.

Amongst their fans they’re known for hits like “Cómo te voy a olvidar” (“How Could I Forget You”), “Por el amor a mi madre” (“For the Love of My Mother”), and “El nuevo sonido de la cumbia” (“The New Sound of Cumbia”). They’ll bring the Latin flavor to the Saroyan Theatre this Friday.

Daniel Tosh

Daniel Tosh has been making people laugh for a long time and across many platforms. The comedian, host, writer, and producer will bring his observational black comedy and sarcastic humor to the Saroyan Theatre on Saturday.

Since his breakout performance on “The Late Show with David Letterman” in 2001, he’s been seen across television screens with “Comedy Central Presents” and “The Tonight Show.” He’s been a key player for Comedy Central, and they released his debut album, “True Stories I Made Up,” in 2005, followed by three hour-long specials: “Completely Serious” (2007), “Happy Thoughts” (2011), and “People Pleaser” (2016).

He became famous for hosting and creating “Tosh.0,” which ran 2009-2020 on Comedy Central. The show’s premise was Tosh making fun of internet clips. Also, for the network, he executive produced and starred in the animated sitcom “Brickleberry,” where he hilariously voiced the character Malloy, a talking bear. The show is in the family tree of adult cartoon shows like “South Park.”

He’s done voiceover work for other animated shows like “Paradise PD” and “The Life and Times of Tim.” Nowadays he’s hosting the “Tosh Show,” a video podcast for iHeart Media.

Daniel is one of the funniest comedians out there. If you miss it, there’ll be no web redemption for that.
